Math Vocab (Week Two)
Simplest form/reduce/simplify (R21)
A fraction in which the numerator and the denominator or have no common factor greater than 1. ex. 3/5 is the simplest form of 6/10
Multiple (r15)
A multiple of a number is the product of that number and any whole number. Ex. 15 is a multiple of 5, because 3 x 5 = 15.
Factor (r10)
A number that divides a whole number evenly. Also a number that is multiplies by another number. Ex. 3 qnd 4 are factors of 12.
Mixed number (R14)
A number that has a whole number part and a fraction part. EX 6 3/4
Dividend (r8)
A number that is being divided. 15 divided by 3 - 15 is the dividend.
Fractions (R10)
A number that represents part of a whole or part of a set. Ex 1/2, 3/4, 1/4, 1/3
Division/Divide (r8)
An operation on two numbers in which the first number is split into the same number of equal groups as the second number. Ex 15-/-3=5; 15 divided by 3 equals 5.
Multiplication/Multiply (r15)
An operation on two numbers to find their product. It can be thought of as repeated addition.
Equivalent fraction (R9)
Fractions that represent the same number.Ex. 3/4 = 6/8
Improper fraction (R12)
Hey fraction was a numerator that is greater than or equal to the denominator. Ex.17/3 or 5/5.
Product (r19)
The answer or result of a multiplication problem. It also refers to expressing a number as the product of its factor. Ex. 3 x 4 = 12, or the product of 3 & 4 is 12
Greatest common factor (GCF) (R11)
The greatest (largest) of the common factors of two or more numbers.Ex. The greatest common factor of 12, 18 and 30 is 6
Least common multiple (LCM) (give)
The least (lowest) of the common multiples of two or more numbers.Ex. The LCM of 4 and 6 is 12
Divisor (r8)
The number by which the dividend is being divided. ex. 15 divided by 3 - 3 is the divisor.
Quotient (r8)
The result (or answer) of a division problem. 15÷3 - 5; 5 is the quotient.
