"Three Days"

Desdemona - 3 is a magical number in literature (represents The Trinity)

"What! Michael Cassio that came a-wooing with you, and so many a time when I have spoke of you dispraisingly hath ta'en your part;"

Desdemona - Cassio knew Des before the wedding... while Othello was visiting.

"I have been talking with a suitor here, a man that languishes in your displeasure."

Desdemona - She should not have said suitor. It makes it seem like Cassio is courting her.

"I'll have the work taken out."

Emilia - A copy made for Iago.

"Good madam, do; I warrant it grieves my husband as if the case were his."

Emilia - Emilia does not know Iago's plan. She thinks he is genuine.

"It is not a year or two shoes us a man: They are all bu stomachs and we all but food; They eat us hungerly, and when the are full they belch us. Look you, Cassio and my husband."

Extended metaphor

"Ha! I like not that."

Iago - Cassio's exits

"O, beware, my lord, of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster, which doth mock the meat it feeds on:"

Iago - Green-eyed monster is a metaphor for jealousy - Tells Othello not to get jealous because it makes a fool out of it's victim.

"Indeed!"

Iago - He puts doubt in Othello's mind.

"I'll send her to you presently; and I'll devise a mean to draw the Moor out of the way, that your converse and business may be more free."

Iago - Lies

"She did deceive her father, marrying you"

Iago - Refers to Brabantio's closing lines

"Men should be what they seem;"

Iago - Verbal Irony

"Good name in a man and woman, dear my lord, is the immediate jewel of their souls."

Iago - Verbal Irony because he told Cassio that reputation was useless - Jewel is a metaphor

"I speak not yet of proof. Look to your wife: observe her well with Cassio."

Iago - Watch to see if Desdemona acts flirty with Cassio.

"O monstrous world! Take not, take not, O world,"

Iago - apostrophe

"Nor for my manhood, honesty, or wisdom, to let you know my thoughts."

Iago - basically refuses to tell what he was thinking

"That he would steal away so guilty-like, seeing you coming."

Iago puts it in Othello's head that Cassio is avoiding Othello.

"Jealous: It is a monster"

Metaphor

"No, Iago; I'll see before I doubt; when I doubt, prove;"

Othello - He has to see for himself to believe it.

"I think my wife be honest, and think she is not; I think that thou art just, and think thou art not."

Othello - Paradox

"And when I love thee not, chaos is come again."

Othello - foreshadowing - eventually there will come a time when Othello doesn't love Desdemona anymore.

"I do not think but Desdemona is honest."

Othello believes that Des is loyal.

"Make it darling like your precious eye; to lose it or give it away were suck perdition as nothing else could match."
