Treaty of Westaphalia
Ends 30 years war and the Netherlands gained independence from spain. HRE loses power Nation states come out of Germany- become part of Europe. Calvinists gained legal recognition. Brandenburg-Prussia became the most powerful northern German state.
Defenestration of Prague
Ferdinand's associates were thrown out of a window into a ditch filled with manure.
Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden
He led Sweden to military supremacy during the Thirty Years War, helping to determine the political as well as the religious balance of power in Europe. Also, Gustavus Adolphus was the main figure responsible for the success of Swedish arms during the Thirty Years' War. ( I hope I'm right, - Justin)
Bohemian Period
The first period of the 30 years war. Ferdinand of Habsburg became king of Bohemia. He revoked Protestant freedom in an attempt to re-Catholocize the eastern-Habsburg lands. Oddly enough, he found allies in Spain and Bavaria from Martin Luther. This conflict went up into Northwestern Germany. (Also, its was for religion-Justin)
French Phase aka French-Swedish Phase
The fourth phase of the war when the French joined in 1635 They fought directly against Habsburgs on the protestant side the Roman catholics were against HRE French and Swedish Allies Swedes would not sign a treaty with out France. Cardinal Richelieu Considered Habsburgs too powerful and Intervened earlier in 1631 with treaty of Barwale Louis XIII declared war signed alliance for military troops and caused the Catalan Rebellion.
Danish Phase
The second phase of the 30 years war. Christian IV of Denmark, supported Protestants In 1625 against Ferdinand II. France Joined Christian and the Protestants Wallenstein raised army and helped fight protestants and defeated christian IV. Treaty of Lubeck gave Christian IV control of Denmark and the edict of restitution enforced the peace of Augsburg. (Christian IV supported the Protestants because he would get a way to spread Danish influence across the great trading rivers of Elbe and Weser- Justin)
Swedish Phase
The third phase of the war. Gustav II Adolf King of Sweden involved. The Swedes entered HRE and signed an alliance with the French. The French entered the war. Swedes wanted protestantism not catholicism while the HRE wanted catholicism and political and religious power. This lead to the Peace of Prague and the repeal of the edict of restitution. No alliances for princes- Union of states and armies Amnesty for those against Empire
Corvee
corvée [kawr-vey] noun 1. unpaid labor for one day, as on the repair of roads, exacted by a feudal lord. 2. an obligation imposed on inhabitants of a district to perform services, as repair of roads, bridges, etc., for little or no remuneration.
