Word salad
A jumble of words that is meaningless to the listener-and perhaps the listener as well- because of an extreme level of disorganization
Somatic Hallucinations
Believing that the body is changing in an unusual way
Illusions
Misperceptions or misinterpretations of a real experiene (coat on a rack is a bear about to attack)
Affective flattening
Negative A reduction in the facial expression, range and intensity of affect
Thought blocking
Negative A sudden interruption in the thought process, usually due to internal stimuli
Anhedonia
Negative Inability to experience pleasure in activities that usually produce it; result of profound emotional barreness
Anergia
Negative Lack of energy; passivity, lack of persistence at work or school

Negative Reduced amount of speech, reponses range from brieg to one word answers

Negative Reduced motivation; inability to initiate tasks such as social contacts, grooming, and other ADL's

Positive Believing another desires you romanticly
Grandeur
Postive Believeing that one is a very powerful or important person
Control of delusions
Postive Believing that another person, group of people, or external force controls thoughts, feelings, impulses, or behavior
Persecution
Postive Believing that one is being singled out for harm by others; often manifest as a plot by people in power
Jealousy
Postive Believing that one's mate in unfaithful
Tactile Hallucinations
Postive Feeling strange sensations on the skin where no external objects stimulate such feelings; common in delirium tremens (DT's)
Ideas of reference
Postive Giving personal significance to trivial events; percieving events as relating to you when they are not
Auditory Hallucinations
Postive Hearing voice of sounds that do not exist in the environment but are misperceptions of the inner thoughts or feelings
Visual Hallucinations
Postive Seeing a person, object, animal, colors, or visual patterns that do not exist in the environment
Gustatory Hallcinations
Postive Tasting sensations that do not exist
Olfactory Hallucinations
Smelling odors that do not exist
Clang
The choice of words based upon their sound rather than their meaning, often rhyming and sometimes having a similar beginning sound (on the track...have a big mac)
Anosognosia
The inability to realize on is ill, which is caused by the illness (schizophrenia)
Echopraxia
The mimicking of movements of another; often seen in catatonia
Depersonalization
The nonspecific feeling that person has lost his or her identity and the self is different or unreal, Body parts don't belong to them or body has drastically changed ( fingers as snakes, arm as rotting wood)
Echolalia
The pathological repeating of another's words; often seen in catatonia

make up words that have meaning for the pt but different or nonexistent meaning to others
