Brand-name is dispensed as the generic. Happens when there are multiple brands for the generic medication.

DAW 0

No product selection preferred. Can substitute with generic equivalent

DAW 9

Other. Reserved and currently not in use.

DAW 6

Override is required. Rarely used

DAW 4

Substitution not allowed because the generic drug is not in stock. Based on the pharmacy's buying habits and inventory.

DAW 8

Substitution not allowed because the generic is not available in the marketplace. Happens when drug isn't manufactured/distributed or is temporarly unavailable.

DAW 1

Substitution not allowed by prescriber. State law may require specific wording be on the face of the prescription

DAW 2

Substitution not allowed by the patient

DAW 3

Substitution not allowed by the pharmacist. Happens when product is available from multiple sources.

DAW 7

Substitution not allowed by the state. If brand-name is written on the prescription, the generic equivalent cannot be dispensed; the brand-name product must be dispensed.
