-Silk Road was the first modern dark web market that is best known for selling illegal drugs -Silk Road operated from February 2011 to 2013 and generated sales of around 1.2 billion. -Darknet users could only buy things from the Silk Road market if they used Bitcoin, an anonymous currency that allowed the drugs to be shipped to a person's actual address with no trail leading back to the transaction. -Ross Ulbricht was the mastermind behind the Silk Road online narcotics empire. -Ross was convicted of narcotics, money laundering conspiracies, computer hacking, conspiracy to traffic fraudulent identity documents, and the "kingpin" charge. -He is currently serving two life sentences plus forty years without the possibility of parole. The U.S. court of appeals upheld his conviction in 2017 and declined to hear his appeal in 2018. -Curtis Clark Green was an administrator for Silk Road. He plead guilty to conspiracy to distribute narcotics and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Green was convicted and sentenced to only 4 years of supervised release because his faked murder helped authorities bring down Silk Road. -Two federal agents and a senior advisor were also involved in the silk road case and were all charged and convicted.
