science, leaves the food factory of plants, 4
What is chlorophyll? What is its role in photosynthesis?
The green substance present in leaves is called chlorophyll. It traps sunlight. Leaves use the energy of sunlight to prepare food.
Describe how plants use the food prepared by the leaves. What happens to the extra food?
The plants use the food: for growing to get energy Plants store the extra food in terms of starch. Plants store starch in different parts of the body.
Carbon Dioxide-
CO2
What are fungi? Give two examples.
Fungi are non-green plants that do not have chlorophyll and hence cannot make their own food. Eg: Mushroom, Bracket Fungi etc//.
Water-
H2O
Oxygen-
O2
Write a short note on stomata.
The lover part of leaf has tiny pores called stomata. Oxygen and carbon dioxide are taken in and out by stomata.
Define the term photosynthesis.
The process of green plants makes their own food with the carbon dioxide and water in presence of sunlight and chlorophyll is called photosynthesis.
