What is chlorophyll? What is its role in photosynthesis?

The green substance present in leaves is called chlorophyll. It traps sunlight. Leaves use the energy of sunlight to prepare food.

Describe how plants use the food prepared by the leaves. What happens to the extra food?

The plants use the food: for growing to get energy Plants store the extra food in terms of starch. Plants store starch in different parts of the body.
