vacuoles
Cells use vacuoles to store nutrients, such as sugar. Vacuoles also store water and waste. Plant cells usually have one large vacuole. Vacuoles often look like bubbles. They have a thin membrane around them.
Chromosomes
Chromosomes contain the master plan for cell activities. This plan helps control what the cell does and how it grows and develops. In animal and plant cells, the chromosomes are inside the nucleus. Chromosomes often look like long coiled springs.
Mitochondria
Mitochondria break down sugar to release energy that the cell can use. Animal and plant cells usually have many mitochondria.
cell membrane
The cell membrane is a thin layer that wraps around the cell. It controls which substances enter and leave the cell. The cell membrane also supports and protects the cell. In a plant cell, the cell wall surrounds the cell membrane. Most substances can pass through the cell wall. But when these substances reach the cell membrane, only some of them are able to enter the cell.
chloroplasts
The chloroplasts use water, carbon dioxide, and energy from sunlight to make sugar. This sugar is the plant cell's food.
cytoplasm.
The cytoplasm is the jelly-like liquid inside the cell. It takes up the space between the cell membrane and the nucleus. The cytoplasm is mostly water, but it also contains many important substances.
nucleus
The nucleus is the master control center for cell activities. It sends signals and instructions to different parts of the cell. Not all cells have a nucleus, but most plant and animal cells have one. The nucleus is often shaped like a sphere. It has long coiled structures called chromosomes inside. The chromosomes contain the master plan for cell activities and cell development. They help the nucleus carry out its job.
