what are the different types of intersections?

1. controlled- intersection is controlled by signals and signs 2. uncontrolled- intersection has not signals or signs... therefor drivers must follow the right of way 3. protected left turn- areas of turning controlled by signals or signs 4. unprotected left turn- areas of turning that are not controlled by signals or signs... therefore the right of way is used to determine the best time to turn 5. controlled railroad crossing- intersection that alerts the driver of incoming trains 6. uncontrolled railroad crossing- intersection that does not alert driver of incoming trains... drivers must be very careful and cross railway when they perceive it to be best

what if the pavement markings are... -solid -broken -turn lane marks -speed mile marks

1. crossing is prohibited 2. crossing is allowed 3. indicated which way car can turn in that lane 4. indicates speed limit in lane

when there is a light rail, you...

1. don't park on its rails 2. don't cross in front of it

how do you respond to the following... -green light -red light -yellow light -school bus -emergency vehicle -railroad crossing -unpaved vs. paved road -1/2 lanes intersect w/ 3 or more lanes -turning left -driveways -t-intersection -multiple lanes -intersection w/out signs or signals - multiple cars at stop sign

when parking you...

when using headlights...

1. use low light when there is additional lighting around you ( this will help to obstruct the drivers view in front of you ) 2. use high light when there is no additional lighting around you AND make sure to stay at a fair distance from the driver in front to prevent obstruction of view

when turning you want to keep in mind that...

1. you yield to the person to the right or left ( depending on what way your turning ) 2. reduce speed when turning, but do not keep your foot on the brakes

what should you do if there is a bicyclist?

bicyclists will stay to the right side of the road or in the bike lane unless they need to take a full lane; the only time they can do this is... 1. when they need to make a left turn at an intersection or when turning into a private road/driveway 2. if it is unsafe for them to drive beside cars 3. if there are unsafe conditions on the roadway 4. if they are passing another vehicle heading in the same direction
