the transparent eyeball is a representation of an individual that is absorbent of knowledge rather than reflective, and takes in all that nature has to offer. emerson intends for the individual to become one with nature, and the transparent eyeball serves as a gateway for that individual.

thoreau implies that true wealth is that of spiritual wealth and that spiritual wealth is attained by fufilling your personal desires and living life to the fullest.
