types of bone fractures- hbs

greenstick fracture

bone breaks incompletely. One side of the shaft breaks; the other side bends. typically happens to children.

compression fracture

bone is crushed; common in porous bones (i.e. osteoporotic bones) subjected to extreme trauma, as in a fall.

oblique fracture

break has a curved or sloped pattern

transverse fracture

complete fracture that is straight across the bone at right angles to the long axis of the bone

comminuted fracture

is a break or splinter of the bone into more than two fragments. common in elderly, where bones are more brittle.

Spiral fracture

ragged break particularly when twisting and force are applied to a bone. common in sports injuries.

dislocation

when a bone slips out of a joint. can occur at any joint (shoulder, finger, metatarsals, radial head, etc.)

depression fracture

A break to the skull which the fragment is pressed inward
