Unit 5 Human Geo
how does Wind and Ocean currents have an impact on the climate
The ocean currents that flow north and south transfire heat between places closer to the equator and places feather from the equator and when these currents flow away from the equator they bring warmth to temperate zones
Climate
A long term pattern of weather in a particular area.
Define Agriculture.
Agriculture is the purposeful cultivation of plants or raising animals to produce goods for survival.
Topography
An areas land features, the slope of the land
Tropical
Areas like these have warm temperatures all year round but vary in their amounts of precipitation. can be found in places like south asia, west africa and east africa
how does proximity to large bodies of water have a impact on the climate
Bodies of water warm and cool more slowly than land so as a result coastal lands tend to have milder climate than regions farther inland anther way it impacts climates is that coastal areas are cooled by day and due to cool winds displaced by warmer air raising from water, and warm by night by warm air blowing onshore as colder air pushes down toward water.
how does Topography have an impact on the climate
Costal mountains have much heavier precipitation on the side facing the wind and a very light precipitation on the side facing away from wind
Why do geographers study agriculture?
Geographers study agriculture to understand how humans have modified the environment to sustain themselves.
How does distance from equator have an impact on the climate
It impacts the climate because depending on how much night time, daylight, and average temperatures you get because of the equator impacts whether your climate is more tropic, moderate, dry, and polar your region is. it also haas effect on your regions seasons lime if you have cooler winters or hotter summers
How does Climate impact the environment
It impacts the environment by providing precipitation and temperatures needed for seeds to germinate, plants to grow, or livestock to have the food needed to survive. From water which provides the moisture that plants and animals
Elevation
The height above sea level
Tierra Templada
This agriculture is where most of the population choose to live and is able raise sheep, cattle produce dairy and grow vegetables, coffee, corn(maize), and small grains
Tierra Helada (Punta)
This is a very high level that mostly alpacas, lamas, and sheep inhabit
Tierra Fria
This is the highest point that people in central america farm with them being able to produce barley, potatoes, Grazing, and dairy operations
Tierra Nevada
Very cold and very high nothing really grows here
Distance from the Equator
What determines the length of daylight and average temperatures
Wind and Ocean currents
Wind that circulates cold or warm water and air masses over earth's surface. The circulation of water and air masses in turn affects patterns of temperature and precipitation
Tierra Caliente
a tropical rain forest with bananas, sugarcane, rice, other crops, and some livestock
how does Soil impact the environment
affects the environment by determining the agricultural potential of a given area, an example is that if an area has rich soil with a lot of earthworms you would be able to grow very good produce and with the solid producing perfect grass and food that livestock requires
How does Elevation impact the environment
effects the growing season and what plants can be grown.
How does Topography impact the environment
it affects the ability of the soil to stay in place and retain water the steeper the slope the more likely the soil will be affected by runoff. Slop can also affect the environment and be a factor in land productivity due to the position of the land toward or away from the sun witch affects how much of the sun's energy the land receives.
Soil
the biologically active coating of earth's surface which is caused by the weathering of rock by wind, water and other factors
Proximity to large bodies of water
things such as oceans, seas, large lakes that effect the climate of an area
