What Is A Chromosome?
Gene
A section of DNA that codes for one specific protein.
Nucleosome
A structural unit of a eukaryotic chromosome, consisting of a length of DNA coiled around a core of histones.
Chromosome
A threadlike structure of nucleic acids and protein found in the nucleus of most living cells, carrying genetic information in the form of genes.
Genome
All the gentic information inside a cell.
Histone
Any of a group of basic proteins found in chromatin.
DNA
Deoxyribonucleic Acid, a self-replicating material present in nearly all living organisms as the main constituent of chromosomes. Carrier of genetic information.
Sister Chromatid
Pieces of identical DNA that are crucial in the process of cell replication and division.
Chromatin
The material of which the chromosomes of organisms other than bacteria (i.e., eukaryotes) are composed.
