Pre-trial

A conference held BEFORE the trial begins to bring the parties together to outline discovery proceedings and to define the issues to be tried. Connection: My friend's mother had to attend a pre-trial for her client so that everyone had a better understanding of the crime that occurred.

Care taken BEFOREhand. Connection: Whenever my dad is cooking, he takes precaution so he doesn't burn himself.

Predestined

Having one's fate decided BEFOREhand. Connection: My mother was predestined to become a teacher because, at a young age, she was very interested in her father's teaching career.

Prejudice

Negative thoughts or feelings toward someone or something BEFORE you regard the facts. Connection: My parents assumed I was right in the situation because they were prejudiced towards the other person.

Prepay

Pay for something BEFORE receiving it. Connection: I always prepay whenever I purchase something off the Internet.

Preview

Something seen in advance; to view BEFOREhand. Connection: Sometimes the scenes shown in previews ruin the whole movie for me.

Preexisting

Something that existed before the present time. Connection: My mom thought she came up with a new idea, but it turns out that it was already preexisting.

Preseason

The period BEFORE the beginning of the regular season which is devoted to training and preparation. Connection: The preseason football game does not have as much of an effect as the games during the season.

Preposition

The placing of one linguistic element BEFORE another (as placing a modifier before the word it modifies in a sentence or placing an affix before the base to which it is attached). Connection: I studied prepositions for a long time in elementary school because some students did not understand that it came before the word it modified.

To arrange BEFOREhand. Connection: We prearrenged the room for the party that was happening later.

To construct BEFOREhand. Connection: I bought a prefabricated table so that I knew it was built properly.

Precook

To cook BEFORE. Connection: I precooked so that the preparation for dinner would not take as long.

Preconceive

To form an opinion of BEFOREhand, without adequate evidence. Connection: I preconceived that I would like that class before school even started.

Preclude

To make impossible, especially BEFOREhand. Connection: I precluded my friend from coming into the house where her suprise party was held by taking her to her favorite store.

Prepare

To make or get ready BEFOREhand. Connection: I prepared the food for dinner before the guests arrived.

Preserve

To protect something BEFORE it is ruined. Connection: This milk is preserved until next week.

Predict

To say what will happen BEFORE it occurs. Connection: I predict that it will rain later because it is cloudy.

Presume

To take for granted BEFORE proven. Connection: My friend presumed I would let her copy my homework just because she gave me some of her french fries.

Preempt

To take possession of something BEFORE anyone else can do so. Connection: I preempted the painting because I bid a high amount of money.

Premature

Uncommonly early; BEFORE the expected time. Connection: Premature pears may have a hard texture and taste sour.

Pregame

What occurs BEFORE the actual game begins. Connection: The football players used their pregame time to practice their plays.
