Problems: While the creation of countries can be viewed as a positive development for individual that share the same language, religion, history and other elements in common, it turned Europe into a much more divided continent, more tribal in a way. Additionally, there was some randomness to the way borders were drawn, which led to people finding themselves overnight citizens of a different country.

When Germany agreed to the cease-fire no conditions were discussed, and so when they were presented with this treaty and it terms, they were surprised. Germany had no choice but to agree to pay billions of dollars (in today's money it would be trillions). The little money Germany had left they needed to use to pay for the damages done to their own country and could not afford to pay this, which made them go into debt.
