Issue: Colonies and Other Non-European Territories; Treaty Settlement: Even though the colonies had high hopes for the Paris Peace Conference to lead a change in the way they were viewed by Europe and their leaders the treaty its self, did very little towards those goals. Problems: The hopes for self-determination or more respectful treatment from the leaders of Europe were not fulfilled, much to their dismay as they ended up becoming European colonies under a mandate that called for them to become independent but those hopes were ignored and those and territories felt betrayed.

Issue: Fear of German Strength; Treaty Settlement: The Treaty of Versailles called for Germany to give up land on the western and eastern parts, land that they took from France as well as all of their oversea colonies. Additionally, limitations were put on the size of its military. Problems: Losing this much land weakened Germany greatly. It forced some Germans to leave their homes in the territories and colonies that were no longer part of Germany. This created resentment between Germany and the allies which later led to a more catastrophic war.

Issue: League of Nations; Treaty Settlement: President Wilson strongly felt the need to create a Leauge of Nations to avoid a situation that led to war like WWI. This organization would peacefully debate the issues at hand and try to solve them without going to war. Problems: Senator Henry Cabot Lodge led the opposition to ratify the treaty and when the vote didn't pass in Congress, this organization lost its main supporter and it weaken it basis. Even though 40 countries joined this organization, many other didn't, nor did they feel they should abide by its ruling. Even though this attempt failed, because it did not prevent future wars, it led later to the creation of the UN.

Issue: Nationalism; Treaty Settlement: The defeat of Germany led to a rise in nationalized and self determination, as different groups of people demand independence and a creation of a country of their own. The treaty allowed for countries such as Czechoslovakia, Austria, Hungary and other to be established. Problems: While the creation of countries can be viewed as a positive development for individual that share the same language, religion, history and other elements in common, it turned Europe into a much more divided continent, more tribal in a way. Additionally, there was some randomness to the way borders were drawn, which led to people finding themselves overnight citizens of a different country.

Issue: War Debt; Treaty Settlement : The Allies decided that Germany had to pay for the cost of the damages done by the war they started, reparations that will assist in the reconstruction of the Europian countries affected by the war, make payments to widows and families affect by the war as the Allies demanded Germany to take full responsibilities for starting the war Problems: There were several problems with this treaty. When Germany agreed to the cease-fire no conditions were discussed, and so when they were presented with this treaty and it terms, they were surprised. Germany had no choice but to agree to pay billions of dollars (in today's money it would be trillions). The little money Germany had left they needed to use to pay for the damages done to their own country and could not afford to pay this, which made them go into debt.
