It is true that Jasek's musical talent was hidden and could be developed and used more extensively. however, it was not wasted because he used it to help him take care of his sheep.

Jasek's love for Wanda showed in his music, and he played more skillfully than he ever had before. This music, when heard by the visitors, resulted in Jasek achieving his goal of entering the University. Jasek is simply giving Wanda credit for this.
