Venial Sin

A less serious sin which does not destroy our friendship with God. Venial sins do not kill the sanctifying grace in our souls. A million venial sins won't "add up" to a mortal sin, but a habit of venial sin makes it easier to commit a mortal sin.

God takes rib from the side of Adam to create man's equal partner.

He created animals for man. God allowed man to name the animals and have dominion over them.

He put the man into a deep sleep and took out his rib and put it in the woman.

Mortal Sin

Mortal sin = spiritual death. A very serious sin (murder). A mortal sin severs (ends) our friendship with God and kills the sanctifying grace in our souls. Without sanctifying grace in our souls, we are not fit for Heaven. It ends our relationship with God and turns man away from God.

Define original sin.

The first sin committed by Adam and Eve. This sin is something all humans inherit. We do not choose to commit it, but we are born with it. Baptism washes away original sin.

How did she regard the tree after the serpent's temptation?

The fruit on the tree was pleasing to the eye and she desired wisdom.

What if any one of the mortal sin conditions are not met?

The person is guilty of a venial sin. One cannot accidentally commit a mortal sin and fall into hell. Mortal sin requires a deliberate choice on the part of the sinner.

Why did both Adam and Eve hide from God after their sin?

They realize they were naked and they felt ashamed.

Jesus gave the power to forgive sins in his name to the church. He told his apostles, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained (John 20:22-23). What does this mean?

This means the apostles and their successors, the priests and bishops of the Catholic Church, can forgive sins in Jesus' name.
