Abeka 8th Grade Science, Section 5.3 Review
From a creationist view, explain why horse fossils are most likely found in supposedly "recent" strata.
A large, highly mobile animal like a horse would have generally been able to avoid getting trapped in rising floodwaters longer than many other animals.
How does he presence of a "highly evolved" animal beneath its "ancestor" in undisturbed strata undermine the idea that the animal evolved from the "ancestor"?
According to the law of superposition, the strata that were laid down last should be on top. Unless both strata were laid down within a short time, the animal in the lower strata should be older than the animal in the upper strata and therefore cannot be its descendent.
How is the geologic column an example of circular reasoning?
The geologic column is based on the theory of evolution, even though the geologic column is supposed to be able to prove evolution.
What type of materials would scientists date with the carbon-14 method?
organic materials (considered to be less than 50,000 years old on the evolutionary time scale)
What branch of science deals with the study of fossils?
paleontology
Define eon.
the first and largest division of the geologic column
What is the geologic column?
the hypothetical time scale used by evolutionists to summarize and illustrate their idea of Earth's history
What terms refers to a "misplaced" fossil?
anomaly
