Library panel
Contains assets and symbols that can be used in the animation
Dynamic Font
Contains characters that are redefined at each instantiation (every time they are printed) rather than when the font is defined as a whole

Punch method of combining shapes
uses the topmost drawing-object like a cookie cutter to remove any shape directly below; the resulting shape retains its orginal attributes

Timing
Helps create the illusion that an action is abiding by the laws of physics adding to the realism. By adjusting the timing of a scene, animators can make that scene look either slower and smoother (with more frames) or faster and crisper (with less frames).
Lasso tool
Lets you make a selection by dragging a freehand outline around an area.
sync type
Literally means the synchronization of lines on the screen; composite video carries all of the video information (colors and brightness combined), as well as the sync information to the screen
Methods of combining shapes
Modify > Combine Objects > Intersect, Punch, Crop, or Union
CC BY-ND
No Derivative Works - allows the usage of only exact copies of the work, not derivative works and remixes based on it
CC BY-NC
Non-commercial - allows you to use the work only for non-commercial purposes
FLV (.flv)
Older video format that is rarely supported by software any longer
MP4 (.mp4)
One of the most common video file formats used for downloading and streaming videos from the internet
Adobe Media Encoder
Part of the Adobe video editing suite and is responsible for encoding video files to the proper format to ensure they play on different devices; offers presets when rendering video from Animate
File compression
Reduces the size of a file to save disk space for easier and faster transmission over a network
Guide layer
a layer used to animate an object along a path
event listener
a procedure or function in a computer program that waits for an event to occur
CC BY-SA
Share-alike -allows you to distribute derivative works only under a license identical to (not more restrictive than) the license that governs the original work
Straight Ahead and Pose to Pose
Straight ahead animation starts at the first drawing and works drawing to drawing to the end of the scene. This can produce spontaneity and freshness. Pose to pose is more planned out and charted with key drawings done at intervals throughout the scene. There is more control in the scene this way.
Solid Drawing
The basic principles of drawing (form, weight, volume solidity, and the illusion of three dimensions) apply to animation as they do to academic drawing.
Focal Point
The center of interest on a page or set of facing pages, created by using color, contrast and proportion.
Texture
The feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface, substance, or fabric.
Arc
The principle is that almost all actions in life have a slightly circular motion, not linear or straight.
Staging
The principle that every pose or action that a character makes should convey a clear intention.
Anticipation
The principle used to let the audience know that a major action is about to take place; the preparation for the upcoming action.
Contrast
The state of being noticeably different from something else when put or considered together.
scope creep
The uncontrolled or unauthorized expansion to a project without adjustments to time, cost, and resources.
skin
The video' skin determines the appearance and position of the play controls
Secondary Action
This action adds to and enriches the main action. It adds more dimension to the character animation. It supplements and/or re-enforces the main action. These actions should work together in support of one another.
CC BY-NC-ND
This license is the most restrictive of our six main licenses, only allowing others to download your works and share them with others as long as they credit you, but they can't change them in any way or use them commercially.
Squash and Stretch
This principle gives a feeling of weight & flexibility to objects. Squash when an object hits the ground, and stretch on the objects way to its full height before falling again.
Exaggeration
This principle is all about overstating certain movements in a way that helps evoke a point, yet doesn't ruin the believability of the scene.
Slow In and Slow Out
This principle softens the action, making it more life-like. As the action starts, we have more drawings near the starting pose, one or two in the middle, and then more drawings near the next pose. Fewer drawings make the action faster, while more drawings make the action slower.
Appeal
This principles states that animators should strive to create images that will be interesting and compelling to the audiences.
render
To convert a source material into the final video footage
Graphic symbol
Used to create movement using the Main Timeline; you can preview it by scrubbing the CTI
Classic Tween
Used to make objects fade in and out, move across a scene or change sizes.
Follow Through and Overlapping Action
When the main body of a character stops, all other parts continue to catch up to the main mass of the character. Nothing stops all at once. When the character changes direction, things such as clothing or hair will continue to move in the old direction and then catch up a few frames later.
CC BY-NC-SA
You may not use this work for commercial purposes; If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under the same or similar license to this one.
