Expert Definition
A definition from an expert in the field which represents a meaning for the term based on specialist knowledge
Stipulated Definition
A definition that is declared, or stipulated, as the one that should be used for the context being described
Bibliography
A list at the end of the essay of works that have been cited
Citation
A notation of where you have used material from someone else in your own writing
Interrogative
A question framed directly as a question, requiring an answer where a number of alternative answers to usually exist. The answer given is usually phrased as a conclusion, supported by reasons and evidence
Imperative
A question which is phrased as a command, asking the reader to do something specific
Declarative
A question which is phrased as a statement, outlining a situation to be described or explored
Issue
A specific, more narrowly defined area within a topic which is more suitable for an essay or other piece of work
Essay Model
A suggested pattern for a piece of writing, and which you can use to evaluate your own writing
Question Stem
A word stating a question such as what, how, is, should, or can, which controls the type of question which is asked an range of possible responses
Thesis-Antithesis-Synthesis
Approach to essay writing which involves establishing a perspective, exploring one that opposes it, then reaching a synthesis, or combination, of the two
Clarification by Examlle
Clarification of a term by giving examples of what it is, or what it is not, in order to hell the reader understand what is being described

Clarification of the meaning of a term by contrasting it with what it is not, in order to narrow down the possible range of things could be understood as

In an imperative, the words which contain the command or commands which the reader should respond. Examples might include "show" or "evaluate"
