Aorta
Dissecting aneurysm
Tear in the intima or media of abdominal aorta
Left renal vein
left the renal hilum, travels anterior to the aorta and posterior to the superior mesenteric artery to enters the lateral wall of the inferior vena cava
Saccular aneurysm
localized dilatation of the vessels
Inferior mesentery vein (IMV )
veins that drains the left third of the colon & upper colon & joins the splenic veins
Rigth renal veins
veins that leaves the renal hilum to enter the lateral wall of the inferior vena cava
Gastroduodenal Artery
Branch of the common hepatic artery that supplies the stomach and duodenum
Portal venous hypertension
Caused by incresing resistance to venous flow through the liver, sonographic finding filatation of the portal vein , splenic and mesenteric, reversal of the portal venous blood flow
Spectral broadening
Change in the spectral width that increases with the flow disturbance
Fusiform Aneurysm
Circumferential enlargement of a vessel with tapering at both ends
Arteriosvenous fistula
Communication bwn an artery and vein
Marfan's Syndrome
Hereditary disorder of connective tissue, bones, muscle, ligament, and skeletal structure
Inferior Vena Cava ( IVC)
Largest abdominal vessels formed by the union of the common iliac veins, flows posterior to the liver to enters the rigth atrium of the heart
Aorta
Largest arterial structure in the body, arises from the left ventricle of the heart and supply blood to the head, upper & lower extremity.
Hepatic Veins
Largest tributaries that drain the liver and empty into the inferior vena cava at the level of the diaphragm
Capillaries
Minute vessels that connect the arterial & venous system
Splenic Artery
One of the three vessels that arise from the celiac axis to supply the spleen, pancreas, stomach & grater amount omentum, forms the superior border of the pancreas
Anastomosis
A communication bwn two blood vessels without any intervening capillary network
Common iliac arteries
A division of the abdominal aorta at the level of the umbilicus to supply blood to the lower extrenity
Common hepatic artery
Artery arising from the celiac trunk to supply the liver
Inferior mesentery artery ( IMA)
Artery that arises from the anterior aortic wall at the level of the third or fourth lunbar vertebra to supply the left transverse colon, sigmoid colon & part of the rectum
Rigth renal Artery
Artery that arises from the posterolateral wall of the aorta & travels posterior to the inferior vena cava to enter the hilum of the kidney
Left renal artery
Artery that arises from the posterolateral walls of the aorta directly into the hilum of the kidney
Superior mesenteric artery
Artery that arises inferior to the celiac axis to supply the proximal half of the colon and the small intestine
Atherosclerosis
Condition in which the aortic wall becomes irregular from plaque formation
Abdominal Aortic aneurysm
Permanent localized dilation of an artery, with an increases in diameter of greater than 1.5 times normal diameter
Pseudoaneurysm
Pulsatile hematoma that results from leakage of the blood into softh tissue abutting the punctured artery with fibrous encapsulation and failure of the vessels wall to heal
Arteriosclerosis
Thinckening & hardening of arterial walls
Budd-Chiari syndrome
Thrombosis of the hepatic vein
Arteries
Vascular structure that carry blood away from the heart
Portal Vein
Vein formed by the union of the superior mesenteric vein and splenic vein near the porta hepatis of the liver
Splenic vein
Vein that drains the spleen, travels horizontal acrossthe abdomen ( posterior to the pancreas ) to join the superior mesenteric veins to form the portal vein.
Veins
collapsible vascular structures that carry blood back to th heart
Superior mesenteric vein
drains small bowels and cecum, transverse and sigmoid colon, travels vertically to join the splenic and portal veins.
Hepatofugal
flow away from the liver
Hepatopetal
flow toward the liver
tunica media
middle layer of the vascular system, veins have thinner tunica media than arteries
Tunica adventitia
outer layer of te vascular system that travels with vasa vasorum
