Allocative Representation
Pork barrel projects are a part of xxx. When a member of Congress gets elected they are expected to do some of these projects for their district. A member may build a highway from a grant in their district as a pork barrel project.
Policy Representation
Representing the constituents' social and economic lifestyles is important for members to get reelected. If the Congress member's district or state has lots of farmers they will work to make policies that will benefit farmers. For example, supporting lower taxes for farmers.
Casework
involves a representative helping their constituents individually. For example, if a constituent is having trouble with their paycheck not showing up. A congress member could help them find out what happened, which would be representing them through casework.
Symbolic Representation
is meant to present the representative as being just like their constituents and sharing their values. Speaking at school ceremonies and speaking about their work in Congress are two ways members may show symbolic representation.
