AP Gov FRQs Unit 4
Q1B: A Describe and action, other than advancing legislation, that members of Congress may take to bring transparency and accountability to the Federal Reserve
1. Requirements for what the Federal Reserve has to report 2. Shortening terms would make the members do more for Congress and not get comfy
Q2: C Explain two reasons why it is difficult for the government to influence the economy
1. The budget is prepared months in advance. 2. Foreign problems can affect our economy because of interdependence. 3. Capitalism affects the economy because the private sector is way bigger than the public sector. 4. Economic policymaking is decentralized: President, Congress, and Fed all play a role.
Q1B: B In the context of this section of the Republican Party platform, explain how the proposal to increase transparency and accountability described in part A would affect the Federal Reserve's ability to make economic policy
Anything added to the normal flow of things would slow down the process that already exists. Changes will be made and if steps are requirements/regulations are added, everything will take more time.
Q1B: C Explain how ideological differences between the parties might affect Democratic Party support of the proposal
Have transparency in these circumstances would empower business more and this would upset Democrats. They would be uneasy and not agree with allowing business to have more information and power.
Q1A: A Describe the viewpoint about environmental regulation expressed in each platform
In party A, a business-oriented proposal was given. It talked about how incentives would work better than top-down regulation where there is a lot of regulations. Party B thinks that the environment is a topic that must be acted on swiftly and immediately. They have more aggressive and nonnegotiable plans even if its not good for the economy. It also stresses climate change.
Q1A: C Describe one other policy area where liberals and conservatives propose different approaches
One other policy area where the two parties propose different approaches is with abortion. Conservatives tend to focus on the unborn lives and their rights where Liberals tend to focus on the mother's life and her rights. The recent events with Roe v. Wade is also controversial because it has been removed which said that states could decide what they wanted to do about the issue of abortion in their states. This was both a celebration and very upsetting to millions of people.
Q1A: B Pick one of the platforms and describe whether it is more consistent with liberal or conservative ideology
Party A is more consistent with conservative ideology because they took a more business and economy-conscious approach. They think that the environment is in trouble, but they also want to make sure other things like the economy stays in balance. Nothing aggressive would happen and people would be given incentives to go along with the government's plans.
Q2: B Identify one US president who would agree with the viewpoint expressed in the cartoon, and draw a conclusion identifying one economic policy that president would most likely support, given their of the relationship between the government and the economy
Ronald Reagan would agree with this viewpoint most because he most likely was a fan of laissez-faire economics. He thought that the government should be less involved and only made the economic situation worse.
Q2: A Describe the viewpoint expressed in the cartoon
The gov't isn't trustworthy and they won't help to resolve the issues in the economy. They really don't hold that much power and ability.
