Key question: How does time impact the meaning of Marina Abromovic's The Artist is Present?

I think that stretching the length of her performance beyond anyone's expectations helps to alter our perception of time and to foster a deeper engagement in the experience as a whole. From an outside perspective, I think it would be easy to become frustrated with how long the experience takes, especially if you were waiting in line to sit in the chair across from her. However, once in the seat locking eyes with her, I understand how it would be easy to get lost in time. There's an intimacy in locking eyes with a stranger. You can tell in the video and through reading someone's first-hand experience that the experience eliminates outside distractions and forces the participants to engage in reflection that is self-nurturing, healing, and transformative.
