Location: only on the right side Function: carries deoxygenated blood to the heart from oxygen poor systemic blood of the bronchi of the lungs (bronchial veins) and thorax. Also creates a channel attaching superior and inferior vena cava. ALL right posterior intercostals empty directly into azygos vein. What vessel it empties into: the superior vena cava

function: receives oxygen poor blood from the superior portion of the posterior intercostals. on the L side. Function: Receives oxygen-poor systemic blood from the bronchi of the lungs. empties into: azygos

anterior intercostal arteries

function: supply oxygenated blood intercostal muscles empties: into internal thoracic artery

posterior intercostal arteries

function: supply oxygenated blood into intercostal spaces, deep muscles of the back, vertebrae, spinal cord.. Supplies intercostal muscles empties into: thoracic aorta

internal thoracic veins

receives blood from: anterior intercostal veins and empties into: brachiocephalic vein
