Training Shell
A course shell used to deliver D2L training content for instructors at CNA-Q.
D2L

PIRS
Official approved course outlines are stored and accessed using the Program Information Retrieval System (PIRS).
Module
A course unit / chapter in D2L.
Course Builder
The D2L tool used to create your course structure, and add content and activities that will display in the course contents.
File Manager
A D2L tool that allows instructors and course developers to manage files and file folders uploaded to a D2L course.
Discussion Forum
A D2L tool that allows instructors and students to participate in graded or ungraded discussion activities.
Groups
A D2L tool that allows instructors to assign students to groups for learning activities and assignments. D2L student groups can be given their own discussion forum and assignment Dropbox areas.
ePortfolio
A D2L tool that allows students to create portfolios of work submitted to their various courses, and to share their portfolios with other students and instructors.
Dropbox
A D2L tool that allows students to electronically submit course assignments. Instructors can also grade submitted assignments within the Dropbox tool.
News Widget
A block on your course home page where you can post announcements and news items that students will see when they access your course.
Shell
A course area in D2L is often referred to as a "shell." When you first request a D2L course, the shell is typically empty, and you will need to copy or create course content.
Discussion Thread
A discussion topic within the D2L Discussion Forums area.
Learning Management System
A software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of electronic educational technology education courses or training programs.
Minibar
The black menu bar at the top of a D2L course page with options to access various D2L course tools.
Course Contents
This tool displays the published contents of your course that have been created using the Course Builder tool. This is what students will see when they access your course.
Sandbox
An empty course shell given to participants in a D2L training course where you have instructor priviledges, and you can edit and create sample course materials.
