Biblical Financial decision making (pie diagram)
Live
Purchase things you need & want The Live category is often the largest pie slice for most people. This category contains all of your needs and wants that you spend money on. In this category, you can make small changes to your spending habits and behavior that can easily impact the other categories.
Owe
Use money to pay debts Debt always mortgages the future. Owing debt makes us a slave to the lender. Being a slave to someone else may prevent us from following God's will for our life. Taxes are something that we owe. Jesus referenced taxes in Matthew 22:21. Jesus tells the Pharisees, disciples, and the Herodians that Caesar should be given what is Caesar's and God should be given what is God's. As long as God receives what is due to him, Jesus did not have any issues with the tax being collected
Grow
Use money to save for the future It is essential for us to plan for the future by saving and investing money. Whether it be to cover unexpected expenses or for your retirement, having these resources can ensure that you are prepared for what may come. This is the best way to stay out of debt.
Give
Use money to tithe or make donations to people or organisations Giving generously can break the control money has over you. When we have a giving heart, God is able to use money in our lives to further his plans. In a previous lesson, we learned about the Treasure Principle. When you use money for God's purpose, your heart will follow where you send your money. God does not necessarily want our money, he wants our hearts. Money is a tool that if used in the manner God intended will ultimately give him our hearts.
