Layering

A postmodern practice in which an accumulation of multiple visual layers to create a single artwork

Appropriation

A postmodern practice in which one artist reproduces an image created by another and claims it as his or her own

Re-contextualization

A postmodern practice in which the meaning of an image or object is changed by the context in which it is placed

Analogy

A similarity or connection between things that are apparently separate and dissimilar

Cliché

An overused expression or a predictable treatment of an idea

Hybridity

The creation of artworks using disparate media to create a unified conceptual statement

Form

The physical manifestation of an idea, as opposed to the content, which refers to the idea of itself. The organization or arrangement of visual elements to create a unified design. A 3D composition or unit within a 3D composition

The study of human responses to art and beauty

Iconography

The study of symbolic visual systems or describing images

Metaphorical Thinking

The use of the metaphors or analogies to create visual or verbal bridges
