Some theories that scientist have about Chavin culture are they helped shape other cultures to the north and south of this site. At the other sites, there are art styles and symbols of religion originated from the Chavin culture. The Chavín culture, like the Olmec in Mexico, could have been a mother culture, one that gave the first form to the ideas and styles of the area.

The Zapotec influenced later peoples through the jaguar spirit which continued to appear in the sculpture and pottery. Pyramids, open space and huge stone sculptures for the look of towns. Ritual ball games and the way of writing and combining of religions.

The maize was so important because it was easy to grow, it could be preserved. A family of three could, in four months, grow enough corn to feed it for two years. Growing food gave people a larger and more reliable food supply. As a result, the population grew.
