Almost all colonies were acquired in an individual way. For example, Britain gained Australia by discovery, New Zealand by Treaty, Canada by war, India by trade and Egypt by stepping into the void caused by the failing Ottoman Empire. But, the theme was that they would "help out" then take over.

During the late 19th century, countries in Europe were in the process of the industrial revolution. Many of these countries were already losing natural resources in their own land so many European countries gathered at the Berlin conference to divide the continent of Africa for more resources..so after that the age of imperialism started and countries were competing for territory and then soon after this will lead to high tensions into starting the first world war

Evangelical religious movements in Britain induced reform, as well as corruption in the East India Company. Slavery was abolished, and campaigns were launched against what were viewed as Indian social abuses.

The europeans change the economies of their colonies mainly by 2 ways 1) selling the products in the colonies which were already overflood in their respective countries 2).The europeans collect the raw materials needed for the production of the product from the colonies ,ship them back to their country,produce there and sell at the colonies.In addition to these they also impose tax on the product

The internal conflicts among Indian kingdoms gave opportunities to the European traders to gradually establish influence and appropriate lands. Continental European powers eventually lost all their territories in India to the British islanders.

How did the Europeans organize and govern their empires?

Usually through a strong, even oppressive and dictatorial leader, the strength of the military, which was in cooperation of the leader, perhaps sometimes with the cooperation of the religious leaders, and then control of communication and trade.

How did Western style education effect colonial peoples?

When colonials were exposed to formal schooling it sometimes pulled them away from traditions and into contact with Western values. The official languages in those countries are from the ruling country i.e. french or as in india english (which is why telemarketers are based in india) the education system also introduced the legal and government (civil service) concepts to these nations and universities enabling an advancement in society.
