Examples of some Pre-Initiating tasks include: (predictive)

Identify project sponsor, determine scope/time/costs, select project manager, develop business case, meet w/project manager, determine how to divide project.

What is a process?

a series of actions toward a particular result.

Closing (agile)

after the sprint review, the ScrumMaster leads a sprint retrospective.

Burndown Chart

an important artifact used to graphically display the progress on each sprint

Planning (agile)

descriptions of work are identified in the product & sprint backlogs. More detailed work is documented & team must estimate a velocity or capacity for each sprint.

Pre-initiation & Initiation (agile)

determining the roles & deciding what functionality would be delivered as part of each release, how many sprints will be required to complete a release & how many releases of software to deliver.

Monitoring & Controlling (agile) - Daily Scrum

held each morning to plan & communicate work for the day & discuss any risks, issues, or blockers.

Project Closing (predictive)

involves gaining stakeholder & customer acceptance of the final products & services.

Product Owner (agile)

person responsible for the business value of the project & for deciding what work to do & in what order, as documented in the product backlog.

ScrumMaster (agile)

person who ensures that the team is productive, facilitates the daily Scrum, enables cooperation across all riles & removes any barriers.

Scrum artifact examples (agile)

product-backlog, sprint backlog & burndown chart

What are the outputs of project closing (predictive)

project files & lesson-learned reports, as well as final report(s) & presentations.

Scrum ceremonies (agile)

sprint planning session, daily sprint, sprint reviews & sprint retrospectives

Agile project team

uses several iterations/deliveries of software instead of waiting until the end of the project to provide one product.

Monitoring & Controlling (agile) - Sprint Review

work progress within a sprint can be represented on a sprint board maintained by the ScrumMaster

In the predictive approach, what does initiating include?

Reorganizing & starting a new process

Sprint Retrospective (agile)

1) what went well during the last sprint? 2) what could we do differently to improve?

The five project management process groups are...

Initiating, planning, executing, monitoring/controlling, and closing.

Project Monitoring & Controlling (predictive)

Involves measuring progress toward project objectives, monitoring deviation from the plan & taking correction actions.

What are the outputs of project monitoring & controlling (predictive)

Performance reports, change requests, & updates to various plans.

Project Planning (predictive)

The main purpose is to guide execution. Every knowledge area includes planning information.

Executing (agile)

The most time & money is spent here. The team produces several iterations of a potentially shippable product. Team meets every morning, physically or virtually.

What do project sponsors/customers focus on? (predictive)

They focus on deliverables related to providing the products, services, & results desired from the project.

Project Execution (predictive)

This takes the most resources to perform. Project Managers must use their leadership skills to handle challenges that may occur.

Scrum Team (agile)

cross-functional team of 5 to 9 people who organize themselves & the work to produce the desired results for each sprint, which normally lasts 2-4 weeks.
