Pie Chart

A chart in the shape of a circle divided into slices like a pie

Combination chart

A chart that combines two or more Excel chart types into a single graph.

Sunburst Chart

A chart that conveys information through a series of concentric rings with the upper levels of the hierarchy displayed in the innermost rings

Bar chart

A chart that displays as horizontal bars with the length of each bar being based on the data value. It is essentially a column chart turned on edge

Column Chart

A chart that displays data as columns with the height of each column based on the data value

Line Chart

A chart that displays data values using a connected line rather than columns or bars

Clustered Column Chart

A chart that displays the data series in separate columns side by side so that you can compare the relative heights of the columns in three series

Embedded Chart

A chart that is displayed alongside its data source and any text that describes the charts meaning and purpose

Sparkline

A chart that is displayed within a cell

Stacked column chart

A chart that places the data series values within combined columns showing how much is contributed by each series

Waterfall chart

A chart used to track the effect of adding and subtracting values within a sum. These charts are often used to show the impact of revenue and expenses in profit and loss statements

Histogram

A column chart displaying the distribution of values from a single data series

Pareto Chart

A combination chart used to display which factor is the largest contributor to an outcome value

Data bar

A conditional format that displays horizontal gradient or solid fill indicating the cell's relative value compared to other selected cells.

Chart Title

A descriptive label or name for the chart

PMT function

A function used to calculate the payment required to completely repay a mortgage or other type of loan.

Leader line

A line that is added to connect the data table to its pice slice when the data label is placed far from its pie slice

Secondary axis

A second or alternate chart axis that usually appears on the right side of a chart.

Filter

A type of what-if analysis which limits the data to fewer values

Chart or Graph

A visual representation of a set of data values

Format pane

An area that provides a collection of commands to format the selected chart element.

100% stacked column Chart

Chart that makes the same comparisons as the stacked column chart except that the stacked sections are expressed as percentages

Chart Subtypes

Chart variations that exist within each chart category

Treemap chart

Chart where each category is placed within a rectangle and subcategories are nested as rectangles within those rectangles

Hierarchy Charts

Charts that are like pie charts in that they show the relative contribution of groups to a whole while also showing the organizational structure of the data within subcategories displayed within main categories

Data series

Contains the actual values that are plotted or displayed on the chart

Chart area

Contains the entire chart or graph and all of its elements

Data Callouts

Data labels that appear as callout bubbles pointing to data markers

Axis title

Descriptive text that appears next to an axis.

Data Marker

Displays an individual value from a data series. These data markers are columns

Horizontal axis or category axis

Displays the category values from each data series

Vertical Axis or value series

Displays the values from a a charts data series

Gridlines

Extend the values of the major or minor marks across the plot area

Financial functions

Functions used to analyze loads, investments and business statistics

Bins

Grouping of data values from a histogram

Chart legend

Identifies the data marks associated with each data series

Chart elements

Individual parts of a chart or graph such as the title or legend

Sizing Handles

Makes that appear along the edges of the selection box, change the width and height of the chart

Tick Marks

Marks in the axis that divide the scale into regular intervals.

Major tick marks

Marks on the axis that identify the mains units on the chart axis

Minor tick marks

Marks on the axis that identify the smaller intervals between the major tick marks

Plot area

Portion of the chart in which the data markers, such as the columns in a column chart, have been placed or plotted

Data Label

Text associated with an individual data marker, such as a percentage marker next to a pie slice

Interest

The amount added to the user or principal by the lender

Principle

The amount of a loan

Primary axis

The axis against which data series in a chart is plotted; usually appears along the left side of a chart.

Category Values

The groups or categories to which the data series values belong

Selection box

The marker that surrounds a selected chart element

Scale

The range of values of an axis. It is based on the values in the corresponding data source

Data Source

The range that contains the data that is displayed in a chart
