Chapter 4
Pie Chart
A chart in the shape of a circle divided into slices like a pie
Combination chart
A chart that combines two or more Excel chart types into a single graph.
Sunburst Chart
A chart that conveys information through a series of concentric rings with the upper levels of the hierarchy displayed in the innermost rings
Bar chart
A chart that displays as horizontal bars with the length of each bar being based on the data value. It is essentially a column chart turned on edge
Column Chart
A chart that displays data as columns with the height of each column based on the data value
Line Chart
A chart that displays data values using a connected line rather than columns or bars
Clustered Column Chart
A chart that displays the data series in separate columns side by side so that you can compare the relative heights of the columns in three series
Embedded Chart
A chart that is displayed alongside its data source and any text that describes the charts meaning and purpose
Sparkline
A chart that is displayed within a cell
Stacked column chart
A chart that places the data series values within combined columns showing how much is contributed by each series
Waterfall chart
A chart used to track the effect of adding and subtracting values within a sum. These charts are often used to show the impact of revenue and expenses in profit and loss statements
Histogram
A column chart displaying the distribution of values from a single data series
Pareto Chart
A combination chart used to display which factor is the largest contributor to an outcome value
Data bar
A conditional format that displays horizontal gradient or solid fill indicating the cell's relative value compared to other selected cells.
Chart Title
A descriptive label or name for the chart
PMT function
A function used to calculate the payment required to completely repay a mortgage or other type of loan.
Leader line
A line that is added to connect the data table to its pice slice when the data label is placed far from its pie slice
Secondary axis
A second or alternate chart axis that usually appears on the right side of a chart.
Filter
A type of what-if analysis which limits the data to fewer values
Chart or Graph
A visual representation of a set of data values
Format pane
An area that provides a collection of commands to format the selected chart element.
100% stacked column Chart
Chart that makes the same comparisons as the stacked column chart except that the stacked sections are expressed as percentages
Chart Subtypes
Chart variations that exist within each chart category
Treemap chart
Chart where each category is placed within a rectangle and subcategories are nested as rectangles within those rectangles
Hierarchy Charts
Charts that are like pie charts in that they show the relative contribution of groups to a whole while also showing the organizational structure of the data within subcategories displayed within main categories
Data series
Contains the actual values that are plotted or displayed on the chart
Chart area
Contains the entire chart or graph and all of its elements
Data Callouts
Data labels that appear as callout bubbles pointing to data markers
Axis title
Descriptive text that appears next to an axis.
Data Marker
Displays an individual value from a data series. These data markers are columns
Horizontal axis or category axis
Displays the category values from each data series
Vertical Axis or value series
Displays the values from a a charts data series
Gridlines
Extend the values of the major or minor marks across the plot area
Financial functions
Functions used to analyze loads, investments and business statistics
Bins
Grouping of data values from a histogram
Chart legend
Identifies the data marks associated with each data series
Chart elements
Individual parts of a chart or graph such as the title or legend
Sizing Handles
Makes that appear along the edges of the selection box, change the width and height of the chart
Tick Marks
Marks in the axis that divide the scale into regular intervals.
Major tick marks
Marks on the axis that identify the mains units on the chart axis
Minor tick marks
Marks on the axis that identify the smaller intervals between the major tick marks
Plot area
Portion of the chart in which the data markers, such as the columns in a column chart, have been placed or plotted
Data Label
Text associated with an individual data marker, such as a percentage marker next to a pie slice
Interest
The amount added to the user or principal by the lender
Principle
The amount of a loan
Primary axis
The axis against which data series in a chart is plotted; usually appears along the left side of a chart.
Category Values
The groups or categories to which the data series values belong
Selection box
The marker that surrounds a selected chart element
Scale
The range of values of an axis. It is based on the values in the corresponding data source
Data Source
The range that contains the data that is displayed in a chart
