Civil Rights Act of 1991
Amends the original Civil Rights Act of 1964, making it easier to bring discrimination lawsuits while also limiting punitive damages.
Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967
Bans age discrimination for jobs unless age is related to job performance. Prohibits discrimination against workers over the age of 40 and restricts mandatory retirement
Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986
Employers can face civil and criminal sanctions for knowingly employing any alien not authorized to work in the United States.
Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990
Prohibits discrimination against qualified people with disabilities in all areas of employment. It is enforced by the EEOC and applies to employers 15 or more workers.
Executive Order No. 11478
Signed in 1969, this act extended EEO (equal employment opportunity) policy to all civilians employed by the federal government. Specifically it names the following: race, color, religion, sex, national origin, handicap, or age.
Executive Order No. 13087
Signed in 1998, this oder amends Executive Order No. 11478 to include sexual orientation.
Executive Order No. 13672
Signed in 2014, this oder amends Executive Order No. 11478 and Executive Order No. 11246 to include gender identity.
American Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008
The term disability was defined to mean (a) a physical or impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities of an individual. (b) a record of such impairment, or (c) being regarded as having such impairment.
