The images here illustrate the steps for terminating a cable with an RJ-45 plug. Drag them into the proper sequence.

1. Review the cable specifications. Using the crimper or wire cutters, carefully slice open the PVC sheath without cutting the internal wires (1.2 cm-1.5 cm). 2. Spread the wires apart so that you can see the color assignments. This type of cable will always have the same color scheme for the eight wires: green, white/green, orange, white/orange, blue, white/blue, brown, white/brown. 3. Make sure that the edges of the cable are smooth, not frayed. Flatten if necessary. 4. Arrange the wires using the color code for T568A or T568B. 5. Position the wires as tightly together as possible and parallel. 6. Slide the wires into the module plug. Clip them on the bottom, wires 1 through 8, from left to right. Verify that the copper wires are fully inserted into plug, their ends covering the metallic teeth, and their casing firmly under the crimp wedge. 7. Insert the modular plug into the crimper while maintaining pressure on the cable. 8. Press hard and remove the modular plug. Verify that the casing is firmly bit and against the wall of the chamber. 9. Gently tug on the cable to verify the crimp.

Which of the following statements are true about a CAT5 cable?

Capable of transferring data at 100Mbps Has three twists per inch of each twisted pair Uses a 24-gauge copper wire Cat 5 cable is a twisted pair high signal integrity cable type. Most cables of this type are unshielded, but some are shielded, used for high signal integrity. These cables can transfer data at speeds of 100 Megabits per second. So, these cables typically have three twists per inch of each twisted pair of 24 gauge copper wires within it. The twisting of the cable can reduce electrical interference and crosstalk. These cables are used in structured cabling for computer networks, such as Fast Ethernet.

Fiber-Optic Connectors

The two most popular are the straight tip (ST) and subscriber or square connector (SC). The ST fiber-optic connector (developed by AT&T) is one of the most widely used fiber-optic connectors; it uses a BNC attachment mechanism similar to thinnet's that makes connections and disconnections fairly frustration free. In fact, this is the feature that makes this connector so popular. The SC connector is another type of fiber-optic connector. SC connectors are latched—a mechanism holds the connector in securely and prevents it from falling out. SC connectors work with both single-mode and multimode optical fibers and will last for around 1,000 matings. They're being used more now but still aren't nearly as popular as ST connectors for LAN connections. Another type of connector is the FC connector, or field assembly connector, also called the ferrule connector, which isn't very popular. It's still used in telecommunications and measurement equipment with single-mode lasers, but the SC is a way more popular fiber end, other than that you probably won't ever see it in production. These look identical to ST connectors.
