Discrete:

The values belonging to the set are distinct and separate (unconnected).

Continuous:

The values belonging to the set can take on ANY value within a finite or infinite interval.

Continuous data is measured. Examples would include height, distance, speed, weight. The height of a sunflower includes all the heights it passed to reach its current height. The speed of a train includes all the speeds it could possible travel. The weight of a child includes all the weights he or she passed to reach the current weight.

Is discrete data measured or counted? Give three examples.

Discrete data is counted. A dice with six sides. The number of students enrolled in a class.

Is discrete data connected or distinct?
