A country that has progressed adequately with regard to economic, demographic and mortality indicators. Associated with a high mortality strata.

A measurement of human development which combines indicators of life expectancy, educational levels and income. The human development index provides a single statistic that can be used for both social and economic development.

Appropriateness

Addressing the specific needs of a targeted community or population - involves the people - choose the right aid to reach poor people - focas on involving and educating women - focas on education - ensure programs are culturally appropriate

Human development

Creating an environment in which people can develop to their full potential and lead productive lives in accord to their needs and interests. It is about expanding peoples choices and enhancing capabilities, having access to health, knowledge and a decent standard of living, and participating in the life of the community and decisions affecting their lives.

Characteristics of developed and developing countries

DEVELOPED ECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS - manageable international debt - wide rage of industries - high average income - many opportunities for global trade ENVIRONMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS - safe water and sanitation - access to food - adequate housing - adequate infrastructure SOCIAL CHARACTERISTICS - gender equality - low birth rates - high levels of employment - high levels of education - social security systems - developed health systems - access to technology - developed legal systems - colonisation DEVELOPING opposite to above

Equality

Programs must be equitable to provide opportunities to meet the needs for all (individuals and communities) - creating policies - funding - providing education - create programs in rural and remote areas - ensure healthcare is provided based on clinical need, not ability to pay

Sustainability

To meet the needs of the presence without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
