Discovery Education Section 1.2 Using Scientific method
Law
a description of how nature will behave under certain conditions
Heat energy
a form of energy that transfers between particles in a substance or system through kinetic energy transfer
Control
a part of an experiment that is used as a standard to compare experimental observation; it is treated the same as the other samples except that it is not exposed to the manipulated variables; controlled variables in an experiment are all the variables.
Variable
a quantity or condition that can be changed in an experiment
Experiment
a scientific activity that controls conditions in order to answer a question
Hypothesis
a testable explanation for a problem or phenomena
Conclusion
process of arriving at an inference, interpretation, or reason
Data
recorded measurements or observations collecting during a scientific investigation
Observation
the act of watching over something or taking notice; in science, observations are carefully recorded as part of the scientific process.
Analysis
the process of studying data to detect patterns or meaning
