Evoke

Production of a response. A response is sometimes said to be evoked if it is unclear whether the response was emitted or elicited.

Elicit

Response produce as an invariable result Example: A puff of air on the eye elicits an eye blink. Refers to reflexes where the UCR bears a 1:1 relationship to the UCS

Emit

Response production, but not as an invariable result of any particular stimulus. Example = A student in a class emits many responses, which are not automatic to any preceding stimuli. Describes the occurrence of operant behavior. Verb Equivalents = express ; perform ; respond ; behave
