Paragraph

A paragraph is a series of sentences about one main idea, or point . A paragraph typically starts with a point (often called the topic sentence ), and the rest of the paragraph provides specific details to support and develop that point.

Express the central point of the essay, just as a topic sentence states the main idea of a paragraph.

Ideally, put your paper aside for a while before doing later drafts. When you revise, try to do all of the following: -Omit any details that do not truly support the topic sentence. -Add more details as needed, making sure you have enough specific details for each of your supporting items. - Add addition words such as first , another, second, also, or finally to signal to the reader you are moving from one supporting item to another. - Include a final "caboose" sentence that rounds off the paper, bringing it to a close.

Transitional words and sentences

Like first, another, also, in addition, and finally are used to help connect supporting ideas. In essay are sometimes used to help tie the supporting paragraph together, and occurs at the beginning of the supporting paragraph.

Essay

Start with a point and then goes on to provide specific details to support and develop the point. An essay, on the other hand, is a series of paragraphs about one main idea or point, called the central point or thesis.
