Energy:

Definition: A property of objects which can be transferred to other objects or converted into different forms, but cannot be created or destroyed. Sentence: The car takes lots of energy to go places.

Electro magnetic energy:

Definition: A term used to describe all the different kinds of energies released into space by stars such as the Sun. These kinds of energies include some that you will recognize and some that will sound strange. They include: Radio Waves. TV waves. Sentence: Radio active is an example of electro magnetic energy.

Gravitational potential energy:

Definition: An object possesses because of its position in a gravitational field. Sentence: When the roller coaster gets to the top it will have gravitational potential energy.

Chemical energy:

Definition: Energy stored in the bonds of chemical compounds (atoms and molecules). It is released in a chemical reaction, often producing heat as a by product (exothermic reaction). Batteries, biomass, petroleum, natural gas, and coal are examples of stored chemical energy. Sentence: We use different types of chemical energy in our science class by mixing different chemicals.

Thermal energy:

Definition: Energy that comes from heat. Sentence: The thermal energy come from the heat.

Electrical energy:

Definition: Energy that is caused by moving electric charges. Sentence: We use electrical energy everyday because we have to have light to see.

Elastic potential energy:

Definition: Potential energy stored as a result of deformation of an elastic object, such as the stretching of a spring. It is equal to the work done to stretch the spring, which depends upon the spring. Sentence: Whenever Ernie stretched the sling it had elastic potential energy.

Potential energy:

Definition: The energy possessed by a body by virtue of its position relative to others, stresses within itself, electric charge, and other factors. Sentence: When the four wheeler got to the top of the hill it had potential energy.

Nuclear energy:

Definition: The energy released during nuclear fission or fusion, especially when used to generate electricity. Sentence: We have a nuclear energy plant at Sharon Harris.

Energy transformation:

Definition: The process of changing one form of energy to another. Sentence: The transformation of the suns rays to plants is a source of energy transformation.

Mechanical energy:

Definition: The sum of potential energy and kinetic energy. Sentence: Mechanical energy is a example of both that is potential energy and kinetic energy.

Kinetic energy:

Definition: energy that a body possesses by virtue of being in motion. Sentence: When the bike went down the hill it had kinetic energy.
