E) Intrapersonal intelligence

1) Skimming (Rapid-survey reading)

Reading for work ("Reading to do")

- a person engages himself in this reading type is his job or work in a company - to read work-related materials for a better job performance

Reading for education ("Reading to Learn")

- a person reads to obtain knowledge from any learning task assigned to him by his teacher - indispensably puts himself into a sort of a teaching-learning situation outside his classroom - instructive in nature

Program of International Student Assesment

- determining the extent of students reading literacy - considered the reading situations into which the readers immersed themselves

Reading for private use

- done by one for personal reading - a person love to read materials about people's lives, fictitious happenings, as well as various expository texts for learning purposes

4) Structure Proposition Evaluation (SPE)

- explained by Mortimer Adler in his book How to Read a Book - Has 3 stages: a) Recognizing language strucutres b) Making inferencees c) Evaluating ideas, reason or conclusions - Judgement is withheld here until the text is fully understood

5) Literature reading

- exposes you to various types of written works that express man's best thoughts and feelings about a certain subject matter - enjoy and appreciate literary pieces - familiarize you with different genres / literature

2) Shared reading

- instructions on reading are given through an alternative reading by your teacher, and you - both of you take turns in reading portions of the text

1) Speed reading

- makes you absorb information at an extra-speedy reading act - Acquired at a super rapid rate, any information from the reading materials tends to stay superficially in the mind - Not the type of reading if deeper understanding is what you need

Reading for public use

- reading is done for social consciousness meaning - a person reads to update himself with happenings and to determine his chances of active involvement into these social events - a tends to read materials with official designation as well as those that can widely inform him of present happenings in society

2) Sub-vocalized reading

- reading occurs when you recognize the form of the word and internally sound it in your mind the way one pronounces it as a spoken word - primarily on the form, rhythm or melody (stress, information, phasing) of the language - prevents you from a quick reading or comprehension of the text

4) Fluency reading

- reading the material several times until you gain mastery of the pronunciation, phrasing, pausing, intonation or stress of the text - it is important that you think and feel successful after every reading act to encourage you to go on continuously and smoothly with reading activity - You monitor reading progress in this type of reading by keeping a record of not only the number of words you could read aloud, but also comprehension questions you can answer correctly

2) Scanning (Search reading)

- requires you to look for particular or specific information - to locate the one and only object - a quick reading that makes you "skip more than you read" - to read the page until you find the object of your search

3) Intensive or Functional reading (Word for word type of reading)

- requires you to read materials related to your course or to your research - CAR (Content-Area Reading)

7) Selective or Key-Word reading

- skimming and scanning are the main reading acts you love to do in this type of reading - your purpose in focusing your attention mainly on a specific part of the text is to get a general view or holistic understanding of the reading material

1) Read aloud

- teacher modeling - good expressions, proper pacing and correct pronunciation

B) Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence

- the ability in using the body effectively to solve problems like using the body skillfully

C) Spatial intelligence

- the ability to perceive the word accurately and to recreate or to transform aspects of the word

9) Strategic reading

- this is a meta-cognitive reading thought of by some as the latest type of reading - you spend some time thinking aloud abou what you are reading or thinking of - normally, you read only with your eyes but if you verbalilze what you are thinking of about the text, you can focus on your mind better - requires you to be alert, awake, or active in reading - by reading you don't just get ideas or meaning from the selection but also reflect on these thoughts - thinking aloud of your thinking give you the opportunity to trace, map out, monitor or evaluate your thinking strategies or patterns - HOTS or higher-order thinking skills

4) Extensive or Recreational reading (Light type of reading)

- to reading as your way of spending your leisure time

6) Developmental reading

- to refine your reading-comprehension skills by letting you experience different reading stages: 1. reading readiness in the nursery and the kindergarten level 2. beginning reading in Grades 1 and 2 3. rapid growth in Grades 3 and 4 4. refining and widening reading in the intermediate, high school, college level and beyond the tertiary level - your continuous interest in reading and practice of this thinking act are the best means to reach the optimum level of the last stage of development reading

6) Detailed Study reading

- to understand the content of the reading material by practicing a method of reading called SQDR (Survey, Question, Reading, Recall Review) - concentrated or serious reading proper note taking - works well in research projects - are you well-developed reading-comprehension skills - needed in any academic study

A) Musical intelligence

- used in remembering a tone, singing a song or composing a sonata

D) Interpersonal intelligence

- used in responding to the needs of others, in knowing about others idea through their expressions and in communicating with others

3) Guided reading

- you are left alone to do a silent or soft reading of the material - your reading is scaffolded or eased up by your teacher's act of motivating you to learn various reading strategies for independent reading -using contextual clues, examining illustrations, activating schemata, discussing or narrating things about the reading material

8) Remedial reading

- you submit yourself to a reading program that will give you special reading sessions under the guidance of a reading specialist

5) Independent reading

- you take the freedom to choose the reading material you want to read - your teacher is free to help you become an independent reader by surrounding you with several reading materials that he or she thinks are very interesting to you

5) Multiple Intelligence (MI)

- your knowledge, understanding or appreciation of the text is enhanced not only by your analytical intelligence, but by your practical intelligence as well that includes the following: A) Musical intelligence B) Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence C) Spatial intelligence D) Interpersonal intelligence E) Intrapersonal intelligence
