adding and subtracting exponential or scientific notation.
Both numbers must contain the same notation. If the don't you must convert the numbers so that exponents are the came then add or subtract.
Exponential notation
a number is raised to the power of ten. The decimal point can be located anywhere within the number as long as the power of ten is correct.
Scientific notation
the decimal point is always located between the first and second digit- and the first digit must be a number other than zero.
