What are the six extrinsic muscle

Four rectus muscles and two oblique muscles 1. medial 2. lateral 3. Inferior 4. superior

Superior oblique

Moves eye inferiorly (depresses eye) and laterally abducts eye

Inferior oblique

Moves eye superiorly (elevates eye) and laterally (abducts eye) Slanting

Superior rectus

Moves eye superiorly (elevates eye) and medially (adducts eye)

Medial rectus

attaches to the anteromedial surface of the eye and pulls the eye medually (adducts the eye)

Inferior rectus

attaches to anteroinferior part of the eye. Moves eye inferiorly (depresses eye) and medially (adducts eye)

Trochlea

attaches to the superior posterior part of the eye

Lateral rectus

moves eye laterally (abducts eye)

Extrinsic eye muscles

often called extraocular muscles, move the eyes.
