Factors that shift the demand curve

Changes in population

Being an ageing population this could cause a shift in demand demand outwards in things such as care homes or stairlift. Another factor this could be affected by is migration.

Advertising

Hey successful advertising campaign chefs demand outwards. Bad publicity shift demand inwards

Consumer income

If consumer income goes up The demand curve shifts to the right. Is consumer income goes down the the demand curve shifts to the left.

A change in price in other goods

If demand for holidays increases it increases the demand for other goods such as suntan lotion.

A change in fashion or taste

If goods are more fashionable than the demand curve shifts outwards. If good to go out of fashion in the demand curve shifts inwards.

Government Legislation

When something is made compulsory this causes a shift outwards in demand. E.g car seats must be used for babies.
