HYPERVOLEMIA: Defined: • Refers to an isotonic expansion of the ECF caused by the abnormal retention of water and sodium in approximately the same proportions.
What are some manifestations of Hypervolemia?
Manifestations: • Edema, distended neck veins and crackles
What is the major prevention measure utilized for Hypervolemia
PREVENTION: • Most patients require sodium-restricted diets in some form. • Adherence to a sodium restricted diet
What 3 assessments are helpful?
To ASSESS nurse measures I&O regularly. Patient is weighed daily. Assess for edema.
