Roosevelt closed and inspected all of the banks to reassure the nation's trust in the country and its banks
Why did African Americans criticize the New Deal?
Roosevelt did not push for full civil rights because he wanted the white Southern vote

Roosevelt was willing to do more to combat the Great Depression, and he tried to improve the public's morale. Hoover thought the economy would be able to fix itself, and he didn't try to improve his public image.

created a large federal government, encouraged deficit spending (using borrowed money to fund programs), and national debt rose

dust bowl, farm equipment was taken by the bank, penny auctions

gap between rich and poor increased, middle class paid more in taxes, and people lost their purchasing power

in charge of the family, had to get working jobs, were discriminated against in job interviews

it restored hope and people finally looked to the government for support again

new technology, demand in Europe decreased, demand for new products slowed, unable to pay back loans

overproductions caused decline of farmers' income, unable to payback loans on farm equipment, dust bowl
What is the crash and bank collapse?
prices went down, investors unable to pay off their margin loan, customers' savings accounts were wiped out
What impact did the Depression have on children?
taken away from their families, died from tuberculosis
What two factors contributed to the Dust Bowl?
the farmers did not rotate their crops and their methods of plowing eliminated the topsoil
