Whats in an API

The documentation for an API would tell the developer that wants to use it: •The destination link(s) to use when sending a transaction •How to format the transaction - field names, field structures, variables to provide, etc. •Once received at the API, the API would decode it and recode it for consumption in the main system •The primary system would return a response to the API and the API would decode that and then recode it and send it back to the recipient.
